The Rev. Joslyn Ogden Schaefer
Rector Joslyn began serving as the 22nd rector of Grace Church in February 2017. Prior to that she was the Associate Rector at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte, NC. She has degrees from Davidson College, Episcopal Divinity School, and the University of Edinburgh. As a priest, she loves crafting sermons, teaching all kinds of classes, and the challenge of faithful organizational development. Her husband, Brian Schaefer, practices law with a specialty in Elder Law. They have two young children, and therefore very limited time when it comes to hobbies! |
The Rev. Orion Davis
Priest Associate Orion has been a priest for nearly 50 years. He and his wife, Pam, have been attending Grace for the last six years. They both love to travel as much as possible. He also follows college sports with much interest. Go Clemson Tigers! |
The Rev. Earle Pratt
Priest Associate Earle holds a Master of Divinity from the Episcopal Theological School, Cambridge, Ma. and a Ph. D. from the U. S. International University, San Diego, Ca. He has served as an organizational consultant to not-for-profit organizations and a psychotherapist in private practice. Earle was rector of Trinity-St. John's Church, Hewlett, L.I., New York for twenty-eight years. He is an avid golfer and delights in the varied challenges of ministry. He and his wife Valerie have enjoyed building a decorating their home in the glorious Smoky mountains! |
The Rev. Carter Smith
Deacon Deacon Carter is a lifelong Episcopalian. Born in Washington, DC, he was baptized in the National Cathedral. A pilot for over 50 years, his flying career included serving as an Army pilot in Viet Nam and 29 years as a Captain for Continental Airlines. After retiring as a corporate jet instructor in the Fall of 2021, Carter and his wife, Chris, moved to Waynesville as permanent, full-time residents of this wonderful community. They have two adult sons living in the Carolinas. Ordained in 2009, Carter’s passion in ministry is for pastoral care and preaching the Gospel. He enjoys travel, fly fishing, restoring his 1967 Triumph TR4 sports car and enjoying his four-legged Doodle daughters, Stella and Riley. |
Virginia S. Moe
Music Director Ginny is a native of Alabama, and a graduate of the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Scarritt Graduate School in Nashville, TN. A cradle Episcopalian, she has served several denominations in various states in the US, as well as spending a sabbatical as a staff musician at St. Peter’s, Weston Favell (Church of England) in Northampton, England. She comes to Grace Church from Rock Hill, South Carolina, where she was Music Director at The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour for eighteen years. Her husband, Tim, is a retired church musician, and they moved here in 2019 with his parents to be near their daughter and the cutest grandchildren in the world. She loves to read, write, and cook, especially with the stove on full blast, and within a week in Waynesville she had already ascertained that her kitchen smoke detectors are functional. |
Andrea Croskery
Parish Administrator Andrea came to Haywood County after living for 36 years in Eastern North Carolina. In addition to having worked for her church in Winterville, NC, she spent 30 years working for Smiles and Frowns Playhouse a children's community theatre. She and her husband moved to Fines Creek in Dec. 2017 and have two grown children. Since moving to the area, she has joined WNC Fibers/Handweavers Guild and The SongSpinners. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waynesville. |
Tony Caldwell
Sexton Tony is a native of Haywood County, "One of the Cataloochee Caldwells." After graduating from Tuscola High School, Tony joined the Army and served with the combat engineers. He has two children and three grandchildren and enjoys living on Pinnacle Mountain near the Blue Ridge Parkway and Barber's Orchard. |
Emma Thomas
Nursery Provider Emma is a student at Western Carolina University and a year away from receiving her undergraduate degree in social work and Latin American studies. Growing up alongside her mother who ran a church nursery in South Carolina, as an adult she was inspired to do something that reminded her of home. A strong passion for advocacy, counseling, and community building, she hopes to become a licensed clinical social worker and explore counseling as a profession.
